Apple has announced many entertainment options for its mixed-reality Apple Vision Pro, which launches on February 2. The headgear will start with 150 3D movies, immersive films and series, Travel Mode, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, and more.
Disney+, ESPN, MLB, PGA Tour, Max, Discovery+, Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+, Peacock, Pluto TV, Tubi, Fubo, Crunchyroll, Red Bull TV, IMAX, TikTok, and MUBI will be available for download and streaming on Vision Safari and other browsers that allow streaming video.
In 3D, users may view “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “Dune,” “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” “The Super Mario Bros.” and more. The Apple TV software lets users watch 3D versions of qualified movies, and Apple Vision Pro members may watch them for free. Apple claims Disney+ and other streaming applications will provide 3D versions of their new and popular movies on Vision Pro. Later announcements will include Disney+-exclusive titles.
The headgear will include Apple Immersive Video, a new entertainment format with 180-degree 3D 8K spatial audio recordings. The Vision Pro launches with a handpicked collection of immersive films and series from Apple. The immersive movies and series include “Adventure,” about pioneering athletes, and “Wild Life,” about exotic animals. The set contains “Prehistoric Planet Immersive” and “Alicia Keys: Rehearsal Room.”
Vision Pro will arrive with a “Travel Mode” feature that stabilizes images for airline usage and a “Guest Users” function that lets users share applications and experiences.
“Apple Vision Pro is the ultimate entertainment device,” stated Apple’s Worldwide Marketing senior vice president Greg Joswiak in a news statement. “With Apple Immersive Video, users can enjoy personal concerts and adventures, interact with lifelike prehistoric creatures in Encounter Dinosaurs, and land on the moon with Environments. It’s unlike anything consumers have seen, and we can’t wait for them to try it.”
The headset has 23 million-pixel ultra-high-resolution micro-OLED screens with Dolby Vision, broad color, and high dynamic range. The Vision Pro has two hours of normal usage and 2.5 hours of video playback. For all-day usage, charge the headset’s external battery using a USB-C connection.
Preorders for the $3,500 headset begin at 5 a.m. PT on January 19. The new Vision Pro App Store will debut with “more than 1 million” compatible iOS and iPadOS applications and headset-specific experiences.
