For its Chromebook Plus range of products, Google revealed fresh AI-powered capabilities today, including a writing assistant, a wallpaper generator, and simple access to Google’s Gemini chatbot. Recall that Chromebook Plus laptops are low-spec, minimal-requirement productivity-orientated devices. The business also debuted HP, Acer, and Asus Chromebook Plus versions.
During its Google I/O developer conference earlier last month, the search behemoth included many of its Gemini-powered capabilities in maps and spam detection requests. For simple access, Google is now putting the Gemini symbol on the Chromebook app shelf.
Moreover, buyers of a new Chromebook Plus will get the Google One AI Premium subscription for twelve months. This scheme lets them access Gemini in Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Gmail, as well as 2 TB of storage. 
Google debuted a writing tool within Chrome earlier this year to let users reformat text anywhere. On Chromebook Plus devices, the business now includes the option to change text systemwide. Users may choose text on PDFs, webpages, or online applications to help them change tone and length.
Google has also included a feature on Chromebook Plus allowing users to create desktops and video conference backdrops using guided prompts. The business also included an Android 14 generative artificial intelligence-powered wallpaper generator last year.
Chromebook Plus devices also gain a generative AI-powered magic editor in Google Photos. This function enables you to move or resize certain items; AI handles background regeneration depending on the changes.
Characteristics shared by every Chromebook
Both current Chromebook users and new cheap Chromebook buyers will receive new capabilities. First, Google is helping you set up a fresh Chromebook computer quickly. Now, after setting up, you can scan a QR code from your Android phone to access vital information such as your Google account information and Wi-Fi credentials shared by your phone.
Chromebooks now have a useful task integration right in the calendar view. From the bottom right of the calendar view, see all of your to-do items from all Google Workspace applications.
The firm is also introducing support for GIF-format screen recording storage and a redesigned game dashboard with key mapping capability for mobile controllers.
Chromebook Upcoming characteristics
At last, Google is hinting at some of the next capabilities for Chromebooks, which are not too far off. Last year, the company unveiled an accessible gaming mouse through Project Gameface, which allows users to operate it using facial and head motion. It is now working to incorporate this ability into ChromeOS so that users can gesture throughout the screen.
Chromebooks also generate Gemini-powered reading summaries of webpages and documents. Users will also be able to search the papers or articles for questions.
To enable you to pick up activities like reading an article you left off on Chrome on your phone, Google will be releasing a new continuity tool on your phone. Every time you open your laptop after this function becomes available, a screen will provide recommended windows, programs, and tabs left open on other devices.
The company is also creating an attention-related function. The system will let you choose a chore, a deadline to do it, and a YouTube music playlist to listen to. During this period, it will switch to “Do not disturb” mode to filter all alerts.

Google presented six new Chromebooks from HP, Acer, and Asus with the feature announcements: four Chromebook Plus and two cheap Chromebooks. These Chromebooks go from a reasonably affordable $299 to $699.
