Google launched Circle to Search internationally on the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Samsung Galaxy S24 series today. The new function, released earlier this month, allows users to search anywhere on their phone using motions like circling, highlighting, sketching, or touching.
Google hopes the new feature will make it easier to use Google Search when you have a query while viewing a video or browsing a social network. When seeing a Korean corn dog being eaten, you may circle it and ask, “Why are these so popular?”
Other motions may activate the functionality besides circles. Chatting with a buddy about a restaurant via a messaging app lets you touch on its name to discover more details without leaving the app.
Circle to Search makes finding word and phrase meanings easy. Say you’re viewing a video for a drink labeled “prebiotic” and don’t know what it means or how it differs from “probiotic.” You used to have to quit your app and look for the term in your browser. Long-pressing the home button or navigation bar activates Circle to Search. Highlight “prebiotic” to discover more. Swipe aside to continue the video when done.
Circle to Search lets you search from any program, so you don’t have to stop what you’re doing to start a web search. You may search straight away without disrupting your present task, so you no longer need to capture screenshots to remember to search later.
