Mike Bell, the senior vice president of digital at UCD Motors, has submitted his resignation. The business made a filing on Monday, announcing the veteran executive’s resignation “effective immediately, in order to pursue other opportunities.”

According to Lucid, Bell will continue to work in an advisory capacity until the middle of August in order to assist in “transitioning” his responsibilities at the firm. Additionally, Lucid has agreed to compensate Bell with severance benefits and a consulting fee of $125,000. The departure of Bell, who was in charge of the firm’s software development, comes at a time when the company is having trouble finding consistent demand for its premium Air car while simultaneously moving ahead with the construction of its next vehicle, the Gravity SUV.

Bell joined Lucid in 2021 after spending approximately six months consulting with the electric vehicle company.

Prior to that, Bell served as Rivian’s first chief technology officer for a short time. His background in mobile technology is quite extensive. His past positions include managing Intel’s mobile business, assisting in the launch of the Palm Pre, and spending almost twenty years at Apple, where he was instrumental in the introduction of the iPhone to the world. Derrick Carty, the vice president of platform development at Lucid and a former Apple employee, will temporarily replace Bell, according to Lucid.
