Lucid Motors lowers their cheapest EV by almost $8,000.

After a poor sales year, Lucid Motors is cutting thousands of dollars off its cheapest electric cars to encourage demand.

The basic Lucid Air Pure rear-wheel drive starts at $69,900, down from $77,400. The Lucid Air Touring, with all-wheel drive and 50% more horsepower, will now cost $77,900, down from $85,900. All-wheel drive Pures are being eliminated.

Even the Lucid Air Grand Touring, with over 500 miles of range, is being discounted to $109,900 from $110,900. Lucid is also giving $1,000 toward a home charging solution and free scheduled maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles with every new buyer.

Lucid stated it delivered 6,001 vehicles in 2023 a few weeks before the price drops. The company’s annual financial reports are due February 21.

Lucid, like others, lowered costs on most Air variants last year to match Tesla’s significant reduction. The $7,500 point-of-sale federal EV tax credit is not available for the company’s automobiles, but they do qualify for the leasing credit. Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson has been candid about marketing issues. “Too few people are aware of not just the car, but even the company,” he stated last year.

Lucid debuted the Air Pure late last year, so making it cheaper might improve sales. Lucid is developing an electric SUV that may attract more consumers, but it won’t launch until late this year. Saudi Arabia, which has pledged to purchase up to 100,000 Lucid EVs over the next decade, received the first few hundred Air cars only recently. Lucid has yet to build a complete manufacturing facility in the Kingdom, limiting its efforts.
