Jeep and Chrysler parent company Stellantis will embrace Tesla’s North American Charging Standard. Tesla is the final major Western carmaker to disclose compatibility, completing its campaign to dominate North American EV charging.
Stellantis said Monday that “select” electric car models from its sub-brands would utilize Tesla’s NACS charging connection beginning in 2025. Like other manufacturers, Stellantis will provide adapters to existing owners to plug into Tesla’s Supercharging network. The business did not indicate whether the connections would be free, like Ford did.
A comment from a spokesman was delayed.
Tesla said in November 2022 that it will disclose the design specifications and let other automakers put the NACS port into their EVs to utilize its huge Supercharger network. Six months later, GM, Mercedes-Benz, Rivian, and Lucid were the next major automakers to bite. Even rival charging providers, like Electrify America, included NACS plugs.
Stellantis, the biggest global manufacturer outside China, was “evaluating” NACS after Volkswagen adopted it in December. A few minor players and manufacturers with limited EV offerings remain holdouts.
