Following Apple’s compelled acceptance of third-party iOS app shops mandated by the Digital Markets Act (DMA), some developers have started alternative stores such as the AltStore and MacPaw’s Setapp (now in closed beta). Aptoide, the long-standing Android app store startup opening a gaming shop throughout Europe, is the latest entry.
On June 6, users will be able to download its game store and use it on iOS, the firm said today.
Aptoide, who originally sold six titles, is opening the shop with plans to expand later. The business noted that Apple’s notarising procedure takes time for the official launch, despite the expectation of more than 100 developers to release their games on the App Store.
The launch titles include Word Jungle, a word puzzle; Condor: Leap of Faith, a jump-based platformer game; All-in-One Solitaire, a compilation of many solitaire games; All-in-One Mahjong is a compilation of several Mahjong games. Another word puzzle game is Charades: Guess the Word.
Word Jungle is the only game with in-app purchases right now. Apptoide charges developers differently for in-app purchases, resulting in a distinct approach. Should a user find the app via search or app store recommendations, the firm charges a 20% fee; if the developer finds customers via paid advertising or community networks, Apptoide charges a 10% fee for in-app purchases. Developers can direct users to their websites for these transactions by paying Apptoide a 10% fee.
The firm claimed to have followed Apple’s laborious application procedure as a substitute app store. The company claimed that Apple’s application process was not always responsive.
Eltrys tested the app store only fleetingly. Installation is quite an easy technique. Once you receive the invitation or access code, you can access the URL to start the app store download process. You will have to visit settings and let an app store download from an unidentified source—Aptoide.
The business plans to bring 500 to 1,000 people onto the waitlist every day after the release. The firm is doing this to keep under the $1 million yearly initial install limit, therefore avoiding paying the €0.50 core technology cost for every new install.
Since 2009, Aptoide has been functioning in the app store domain with an Android client. The Android app market tallied over half a billion downloads last year.
For Aptoide, experience operating an Android app store might be helpful to some degree; yet, iOS is a different ball game with Apple’s own guidelines and constraints. Furthermore, the corporation will have to add some original games to its shop while rival retailers fight for consumer attention in the EU.
