Evolution Equity Partners, Salesforce Ventures, Tapestry Ventures, and Zscaler led a $33 million Series A investment in Oleria, a company that offers enterprise access management technologies.
In 2022, Jim Alkove and Jagadeesh Kunda launched Oleria. Alkove, a former Microsoft CVP and Salesforce “chief trust officer” who met Kunda, says he had “long been vexed” by the difficulty of offering cybersecurity without interfering with business partners.
“So often access to apps and data is insecure due to being over-provisioned and complex to govern, as well as placing unnecessary obstacles in the way of employees—making it challenging to balance security and business agility,” Alkove told Eltrys via email. “It’s clear that the real solution requires an adaptive and autonomous approach to access—granting just the right access, at the right time, for the right duration.”
Oleria’s technology restricts organizational users’ access to digital assets like applications. Oleria investigates erroneously given permissions and unwanted access and recommends access risk mitigation.
Oleria has secured $40 million in venture money, including the Series A tranche, but hasn’t made its platform public. A GA is planned for later this year if a pilot with select prospective clients goes well.
Alkove: “Oleria’s biggest competitor today is the status quo.” CISOs and their teams struggle to prevent access-related cyber breaches using old technology and manual intervention, leaving them unprepared for the current threat landscape. We’ve designed and managed corporate security systems at scale and run global security teams, so we understand these difficulties and how to handle them.”
