A suspected ransomware assault last week prevented LoanDepot clients from making mortgage payments or accessing their online accounts.
The mortgage and lending giant stated on January 8 that it was attempting to “restore normal business operations as quickly as possible” after a ransomware assault that entailed “encryption of data.”
According to social media and forum posts, users have had trouble accessing their accounts and making payments. Some said they couldn’t finish agreements during LoanDepot’s disruption, while others had better experience calling the firm.
According to LoanDepot’s cyber incident website, numerous client portals returned online on Thursday with restricted functionality.
LoanDepot spokesperson Jonathan Fine declined to respond by email but confirmed that malware was involved. Fine would not confirm if the organization was aware of a ransom demand or whether client data was hacked.
Since its January 8 SEC report, LoanDepot has not informed regulators on its recovery.
LoanDepot claims millions of clients on its website.
