After Netflix declines, app developers rethink Vision Pro debut.

YouTube, like Netflix, will not produce an Apple Vision Pro app. YouTube users, like Netflix members, must use the web browser.

“We’re excited to see Vision Pro launch, and we’re supporting it by ensuring YouTube users have a great experience in Safari,” a YouTube spokesman told Eltrys. The corporation did not explain its withdrawal. YouTube may not support Vision Pro in the future.

Customers will be disappointed if they have to use Safari to watch YouTube, the most popular video-sharing network. It also prevents them from accessing YouTube’s offline downloads, defeating the headset’s purpose. YouTube’s Meta Quest app is notable.

Netflix told us that it won’t release a device app. The corporation also won’t change its iPad.

Meta-owned Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and WhatsApp may also avoid opening compatible apps, according to MacStories. This might change when Vision Pro comes on February 2. Meta didn’t react to our comment request right away. Other missing applications include YouTube Music, Roku, Snapchat, DoorDash, Bumble, and Lyft.

Bloomberg reports that Spotify will not release a new app. The music streaming service’s iPad app isn’t on Vision Pro either. Spotify declined to comment on its Vision Pro app intentions.

Notably, several media businesses are apparently rejecting Apple’s mixed-reality headgear. They can easily release apps in the Vision Pro shop as they all have iPhone and iPad apps. Apple said iPad apps in the App Store will automatically appear in Vision Pro unless developers opt out.

Since Apple just revised its App Store guidelines to comply with a court ruling, Apple gets to decide which applications may link to their websites; therefore, developers aren’t ready to promote its latest effort. Many other restrictions apply, including a 27% fee for out-of-app-store transactions.

Spotify previously stated that “imposing a 27% fee for transactions made outside of an app on a developer’s website is outrageous.” A source told Bloomberg that Spotify’s apparent rejection of Apple’s latest gadget is unrelated to its public dissatisfaction with the new App Store guidelines.

Companies are willing to participate. TikTok, Disney+, Max, Discovery+, Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+, Peacock, Pluto TV, Tubi, Fubo, Crunchyroll, ESPN, NBA, MLB, PGA Tour, Red Bull TV, IMAX, and MUBI will introduce entertainment experiences on the headset.
