Apollo for Reddit programmer created a Vision Pro app as YouTube is not.

YouTube is not developing an app for Apple’s Vision Pro headset, which releases today. Christian Selig, who developed Apollo for Reddit, created Juno, a YouTube Vision Pro software, to cover that need.

The app costs $5 once and has no ongoing income plan. The program leverages YouTube’s embed API to load videos in a browser view and give playing controls, according to Selig’s blog.

This lets Juno operate natively and intelligently resize windows based on aspect ratios, according to the creator. YouTube may now serve advertising to non-Premium users using the embed API.

The Juno app has resizable windows, pinch drag to scrub through the video, double squeeze on sides to move the movie ahead or back 10 seconds, and darken surroundings to focus.

Last month, Selig commented on X that he intended to create a Vision Pro-native YouTube wrapper app because he used the service a lot.

Currently, the program supports one window. Vision Pro can display several spatial windows, therefore he aims to add multiview functionality. Juno will also include caption controls, comments, and immersive surroundings.

Earlier this week, Apple announced 600 Vision Pro-optimized applications. Netflix, YouTube, and Spotify do not have applications at launch; however, Disney+, Max, ESPN, CBS, Paramount+, NBC, NBC Sports, Peacock, FOX Sports, and the UFC do.

Last June, Reddit altered its API restrictions, forcing Selig to shut down Apollo. The developer added dynamic widgets to his charming virtual pet software, Pixel Pals, for Apple’s Dynamic Island in September. His Pixel Pals app included a language-learning widget in October.
