Not sure between Bluesky, Mastodon, and Nostr? You may post to all three using Nootti’s new app.

Today, social media management is difficult. It’s harder for people trying new Twitter-like sites like Mastodon, Nostr, and Bluesky because keeping active requires many duplicate postings to numerous networks. Developers are now providing cross-posting options, thankfully. The new software Nootti lets you publish to Mastodon, Nostr, and Bluesky from one UI, along with scheduling services like Fedica and Postpone.

As we wait for multi-service social networking and news trackers like Tapestry, Nootti’s iOS software may save you time when sharing a post with your followers on three prominent Twitter/X alternatives. Additionally, Apple’s “Share via…” feature allows your message to be shared across many programs, such as X or Meta’s Threads. (A smart workaround because Threads’ API isn’t open and X’s is too pricey for indie developers.)

Nootti, Finnish meaning “note,” is simple. It won’t have Mastodon’s polls, alt text, or hashtag recommendations. Nootti can handle basic text (or text-plus-media) posts. Nootti counts your remaining characters while you write. Upload images from your camera roll and hit the envelope symbol to submit the post.

Nootti requires account configuration in settings. Bluesky allows you to use an app password instead of your primary password, even if the app doesn’t say so.

Nootti is appealing since you can simply tailor posts to multiple platforms. Type your post on the “Main” page, then navigate to the other social media tabs. Each tab will automatically fill in the post, but you may alter each network’s message. You may be more fun on Bluesky and hashtag your Mastodon posts. After clicking the envelope button, the personalized messages are sent to all three networks.

Developer Petri Kajander created Nootti for himself.

“Social media is defragmented, and waiting won’t change it. Active participation is required to change, he argues.“ Many people have stopped posting or are in one place. It takes too long to expand your presence to many locations. Kajander advises posting to many platforms, keeping interaction local to each network, and customizing each message to each platform, as no network is clearly winning.

He wanted an app that forces you to compose articles since he doesn’t like auto-posting.

Nootti is free on the App Store, but Kajander is building a premium version, although he hasn’t decided on a business strategy.

Is it necessary to support additional networks like Threads once it becomes a federated app utilizing the ActivityPub protocol? Kajander replied that he hadn’t decided. The Nootti share button lets you cross-post to any other app for now.
