Startup Weavix raises $23.6M for frontline worker ‘smart’ radios.

Do frontline workers—like healthcare workers—use radios? They once. Due to inexpensive cellphones and services, mobile voice and video chat applications are gradually replacing radios. One poll found that 44% of frontline workers utilize smartphone push-to-talk, or “walkie-talkie” capabilities.

Despite the trend, two-way worker radios are still popular. Kevin Turpin, co-founder and CEO of Weavix, a firm that offers radios and software to help organizations manage and interact with frontline workers, says so.

Turpin told Eltrys in an email interview, “With innovation happening in the frontline worker market, I realized the opportunity to build a solution that enables both the worker and management to drive organizational change.” “Weavix connects the disconnected workforce through communication and data to scale frontline engagement and efficiency.”

Weavix, founded in 2022, differs from “smart” radios, which include screens and GPS. Weavix radios offer live and recorded video and text messaging, translation, and transcription. On the back end, managers may send alerts to groups of radios and organize and analyze worker occurrences to steer them.

“In spite of the prevalence of personal devices in today’s society, frontline workers often face the opposite situation on the job,” Turpin added. “Failing to equip each worker with an electronic device misses an opportunity for the organization to gather vital data and overcome serious communication barriers.”

Investors support the assumption and Weavix’s user-license model.

Today, Weavix revealed that it has secured $23.6 million from Insight Partners, increasing its total financing to $33.6 million. Weavix co-founder and CEO Kevin Turpin said it will be used to grow U.S. operations and hire over 150 individuals by year’s end.

Did Weavix’s tech or customer momentum convince Insight? Without seeing the books, it is hard to say. Turpin said Weavix has “multiple” Fortune 500 clients in manufacturing, food and beverage production, commercial construction, energy, and hospitality.

Weavix competes with Origami Labs, which makes “smart” radios for frontline workers. However, Insight Partners VP Grace Kotick claims that Weavix is one of the few companies with a lifetime guarantee and a “data-driven platform.”

She emailed, “Weavix’s mobile device for the frontline worker is a game-changer.” “Their smart radios and software boost frontline worker productivity and connectivity. Hardware, software, and increased networking have altered communications for people in need.”
