Tesla recalls Cybertrucks with jammed accelerator pedals.

Tesla has issued a recall for all 3,878 Cybertrucks shipped to date. This recall is in response to a concerning issue where the accelerator pedal can become stuck, potentially endangering drivers and increasing the risk of a crash. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has brought attention to this matter.

The recall marks the end of a turbulent week for Tesla. The company made the difficult decision to reduce its workforce by over 10% on Monday, and unfortunately, it also experienced the departure of two of its top executives. After some time, Tesla requested shareholders reconsider voting on CEO Elon Musk’s substantial compensation package, which had been rejected by a judge earlier this year.

There have been recent reports of issues with the accelerator pedal of the Cybertruck. Reportedly, Tesla temporarily halted deliveries of the truck to address the problem. In a post on X, Musk mentioned that Tesla is taking a cautious approach. Additionally, the company has reported to NHTSA that there have been no crashes or injuries associated with the problem.

The company has officially informed NHTSA about the pedal dislodging issue, which could potentially cause it to slide up and become trapped in the trim surrounding the footwell.

Tesla reported that it initially received a notification regarding an accelerator pedal incident from a customer on March 31, followed by a second incident on April 3. On April 12, a thorough examination led to the decision to initiate a recall. We discovered that an unauthorized alteration had introduced lubricant (soap) to aid in the assembly of the pad onto the accelerator pedal. As a result, the residual lubricant compromised the pad’s adherence to the pedal.

Tesla has announced that it will be replacing or reworking the accelerator pedal on all current Cybertrucks. Additionally, Tesla has informed NHTSA that they are now manufacturing Cybertrucks with a newly designed accelerator pedal. Tesla is also actively addressing any issues with vehicles currently in transit or awaiting delivery at their centers.

Although the Cybertruck has only recently begun shipping, it has already been recalled. However, the initial issue was relatively insignificant: earlier this year, Tesla issued a software recall for all of its vehicles due to the small font sizes of its warning lights. The company made the truck public in 2019.
