WeTransfer’s expiration dates are still in place, but there is a way to extend them.

WeTransfer’s expiration dates have been a significant frustration for users, particularly those in the creative field. The issue is that if you fail to download the files immediately after receiving the link or email, it’s easy to forget to do so before the link expires. Eventually, you’ll need to request for it to be sent again. Which can become quite frustrating for both parties involved.

WeTransfer’s answer to the problem

The company has acknowledged the problem and seems to be taking steps to address it. They have introduced a new feature called “Save for Now” on their mobile app, which allows users to modify the expiration date of files. Unfortunately, it’s not a complete solution.

On Tuesday, WeTransfer made a somewhat perplexing announcement regarding its X account. They stated that users now have the option to extend the expiration date by up to 30 days using the mobile app. Additionally, they made the bold claim that WeTransfer’s links will no longer have an expiration date. The company later clarified that the duration of the extension will vary based on your plan. Even if users neglect to save, links can still expire.

Users were disappointed with WeTransfer’s messaging as it created the false impression that link expiry was being completely eliminated, which is not true. It is necessary to take immediate action in order to prevent the link from expiring.

Users now have the option to save links sent to them on WeTransfer’s mobile app. This convenient feature, called “Save for Now,” allows users to store links in a separate folder, similar to a bookmark icon, to avoid link expiration.

This feature can come in handy if you’re short on time and need to access files later without the hassle of searching through your email inbox.

During our testing, we discovered that using a free account allows you to prolong the expiration date of a link on the app for a maximum of seven days. The standard timeframe is only three days from the creation of the link. We have reached out to WeTransfer for further clarification regarding the time frame for extending dates on paid plans. If we receive a response, we will promptly update the article.

Last month, Italy-based Bending Spoons acquired WeTransfer, expanding their app portfolio to include other well-established properties like Evernote and Meetup. When the announcement was made, WeTransfer’s CEO, Alexandar Vassilev, proudly shared that the file transfer platform had gained an impressive 600,000 subscribers and 80 million monthly active users throughout its decade-long development.
