The development of Apple Vison Pro apps is accelerating ahead of the spatial computing device’s Friday debut. Even though just 150-plus applications had been built for the Vision Pro as of last week, according to a third-party App Store analysis, Apple revealed today that more than 600 new apps and games are being prepared for its arrival. The business claims these join over 1 million iOS and iPadOS-compatible apps.
The report follows Apple’s suggested compliance strategy with the EU’s new Digital Markets Act (DMA), which requires Apple to open up to rival app shops and payments. Apple’s compliance approach puts Apple over the law. Spotify, Epic Games, and Microsoft called it a “farce” with “junk fees” and a “step in the wrong direction.” Apple’s anti-developer DMA attitude raised concerns that it would deter developers from producing programs for its AR/VR headset, its next computing platform. Netflix and YouTube have announced they won’t support the gadget at launch.
Apple hopes to allay such fears by announcing that the Vision Pro will have a large software library, despite its high price and lack of developer goodwill.
According to the manufacturer, more than 600 apps and games use the Vision Pro’s 3D user interface, which is accessible with the eyes, hands, and voice.
Disney+, ESPN, MLB, PGA Tour, Max, Discovery+, Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+, Peacock, Pluto TV, Tubi, Fubo, Crunchyroll, Red Bull TV, IMAX, TikTok, and MUBI have announced support.
Apple claims that the NBA app will stream up to five shows live or on-demand, while the PGA Tour Vision app has real-time shot tracking across models of genuine golf courses. Race maps will be 3D on Red Bull TV. The MLS Season Pass will be available on Apple TV for soccer enthusiasts. Apple Originals, over 200 3D movies, and Apple Immersive Video will be available in that app.
Charter Spectrum, Comcast Xfinity, Cox Contour, Sling TV, and Verizon Fios also have applications. Along with ESPN, Paramount+, Peacock, and others, CBS, NBC, NBC Sports, Fox Sports, and the UFC are joining.
Apple announced productivity apps for the Vision Pro, including MindNote, OmniFocus, OmniPlan, Microsoft 365, Fantastical, Box, Numerics, JigSpace, Webex, Zoom, Microsoft Team, Slack, Notion, Todoit, and Navi, which translate conversations in real time.
Apple said Vision Pro will have games like BA 2K24 Arcade Edition, Sonic Dream Team, TMNT Splintered Fate, and others to allay concerns about its lack of games compared to cheaper headsets like Meta’s Quest VR. It will also offer over 250 games on Apple Arcade without in-app purchases or ads, including Synth Riders, LEGO Builder’s Journey, Super Fruit Ninja, Game Room, WHAT THE GOLF?, Cut the Rope 3, Jetpack Joyride 2, Bloons TD 6+, Stitch, Patterned, Illustrated, and Wylde Flowers.
Other Vision Pro software store apps include Loóna’s soothing 3D dioramas, Blackbox’s spatial puzzles, and Skatrick Pro’s skateboarding software. From Mac Virtual Display, Lies of P, and Baldur’s Gate 3, users may access Steam and other Mac App Store titles.
Apple also highlighted new and old titles like Hold the World, which takes players to London’s Natural History Museum, and The Archive, which enables Star Trek fans to explore virtual locales and media. air traffic control expertise ForeFlight; 3D weather app CARROT Weather; teaching app SolAR; solar system explorers Sky Guide and Night Sky; medical applications Insight Heart, CellWalk, and Complete HeartX; mindfulness and wellness apps Lungy: Spaces, Odio, Endel, djay, NowPlaying, STAGE+, Spool, Animoog Galaxy, AmazeVR Concerts, tappr.tv, and Apple Music.
J.Crew Virtual Closet, Mytheresa: Luxury Experience, Lowe’s Style Studio, Wayfair Decorify, and Zillow will offer virtual house tours.
According to Appfigures, just 350+ apps are published on the App Store today, suggesting many developers are waiting until the last minute.
