With Hinge, you may now silence requests that include terms that you choose.

With the new “Hidden Words” feature, users will no longer be able to see likes or comments that include certain phrases or words on Hinge. In essence, it’s a mute button for your social networking applications.

When users like a profile on Hinge, they have the option to send a message. This message may include whatever content the user wants. In 2022, competitors such as Bumble will offer similar features under the name Compliments. Match Group-owned Hinge has launched a new feature that enables users to hide phrases in messages. The goal is to reduce instances of online abuse.

Profiles won’t show up in your normal like list if they include any of the terms you put on the mute list in a comment with a like. Instead, it appears in its own “Hidden Likes” section. This reminds me of the Instagram or Twitter message request inbox. You can simply delete or review these requests.

Users have the option to augment their secret word list with emojis, phrases, or sentences. Users on Hinge have the option to include up to 1,000 secret words in their profiles.

During a call with Eltrys, Hinge’s Jeff Dunn said that the firm has been beta testing many features for its safety toolset, with “Hidden Words” emerging as the clear frontrunner for public release. Dunn dropped hints that this function may become more involved in the road, perhaps even allowing users to filter their discussions.

We have a plan to improve Hidden Words, which includes making it more versatile, adding more features, and covering more ground. Currently, we are investigating ways to enhance the functionality and get insight into user expectations for the first release,” he said.
