People sometimes copy dating profiles and share them with friends and family as a form of criticism or to tell them who they’re meeting that weekend. The new Tinder feature “Share My Date” lets users post their date arrangements straight from the app.
Tinder said Monday that users may now send a link with the match’s name, meeting place, date, and time. You can type notes at the bottom. You can distribute editable links up to 30 days before the date, allowing people to make changes to the information.
All recipients may see “Share My Date” links, even non-Tinder users. Friends with Tinder accounts can see the match’s complete profile but not message it. A Tinder spokeswoman told Eltrys that non-users can only view the match’s images, name, and age in their browser.
The “Share My Date” link expires, like Tinder’s “Matchmaker” function, which allows friends to propose matches. The spokesman said that this discourages social media sharing.
51% of Tinder users under 30 tell their friends about their dates, which prompted the new feature.
“At Tinder, we continue to release new features that aim to create a fun, safe, and respectful experience for all,” CMO Melissa Hobley stated. A dating tradition involves discussing arrangements with friends and family. Share My Date simplifies basic info-sharing so singles can get to the fun stuff, like dressing and talking.
U.S., U.K., Australia, Canada, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, India, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Brazil, Singapore, Switzerland, Mexico, Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand will get the new function in the coming months.
The debut of “Share My Date” comes as dating applications expand slowly. Last January, the U.S. had 12.7 million installs, up 2.38% from the year before. Tinder’s paid clients fell 8% to 10 million in Q4 2023.
Match Group, which owns Tinder, Match, Hinge, OkCupid, PlentyOfFish, and others, will release Q1 2024 results on Wednesday, May 8.
