Amazon Fire TV gets AI-powered picture generator

Amazon now allows Fire TV users to create AI-generated graphics. The capability is available in the U.S. for second-generation Fire TV Stick 4K Max and Fire TV Omni QLED Series customers starting today.

Fire TV’s latest functionality uses Amazon’s Titan Image Generator, unveiled at AWS re:Invent 2023 in November. The Titan model, like Stability AI and OpenAI’s DALL-E 3, generates images from textual prompts. Speaking to Alexa with the TV remote activates the Fire TV AI capability, allowing users to create pictures with their voices.

Users can say, “Alexa, create a fairy landscape background.” It then creates four pictures that users may alter using impressionistic, watercolor, or fantasy styles. Users may save and set a final image as their TV background.

Titan can modify graphics, but Fire TV won’t at launch. Amazon wouldn’t say when customers could upload personal images to the generator.

The Fire TV Ambient Experience uses the image generator to transform the TV into a smart display with artist-made backdrops or Amazon pictures. Amazon added the experience to the Fire TV Stick 4K Max after offering it in its Omni QLED series.

At its 2023 devices event, Amazon announced many Fire TV upgrades, including better voice search for asking Alexa to identify titles by actor, director, genre, or movie scene.

Amazon just launched three new creative AI-powered Alexa experiences: playing the “20 Questions” game, talking to AI characters, and making original tunes.
