App that reads text Speechify adds Gmail and voice cloning

TTS startup Speechify’s new iOS app (v3.0) has a revamped home page, document scanning, Gmail and Canvas connectivity, and an explore tab for in-app content.

Speechify is adding shortcuts to import files from iOS Files, Google Drive, Kindle, Gmail, Text, Scan, and Link to its site. Users may now scan a physical paper and import the content to listen to later with the new version. Users may also scan two book pages simultaneously.

The redesigned home page contains an adjustable Apple Fitness Ring-style daily reading goal.

The startup will integrate Gmail to allow consumers to access their emails. The program helps Speechify users import PDF attachments. For students to access homework, the firm is integrating Canvas with the learning management system. The new iCloud connection takes your files to Speechify automatically.

Speechify is using iOS 17’s interactive widgets to load sources, monitor reading progress, and continue listening to imported documents. Listen to music offline in quality voices with the new app.

The app offers new pre-set AI voices with enhanced speech models, according to the business. It also updated Snoop Dogg and Mr. Beast’s voices. A paper or article may be summarized by the AI and read out by the app.

Voice cloning and text reading are further AI-powered features of Speechify 3.0. Apple debuted Personal Voice, an accessibility tool that sounds like you, last year. Clubhouse also introduced voice-read conversations this month.

The Speechify app claims 23 million users when you sign up. The corporation did not specify whether this figure represented registered or active users. The firm partnered with Instagram co-founders’ Artifact, which closed last month, and Medium. Tyler Weitzman, co-founder and head of AI, said the firm would expose a public API of its text-to-speech solutions for broader corporate collaborations.

In addition to supporting other reading sources, the firm revamped its Explore page to include its own material on productivity, self-improvement, and learning differences. This is Instagram Stories-style material.

After listening to 500 words on Speechify, people tend to adore it, the business found. Companies preload material to offer consumers a head start. The firm hopes to add app content. An in-app browser lets users view material from other websites. Also, it has an audiobook division.

Speechify has diverse competition. Text-to-speech functionality is available on Pocket, a Mozilla product. The NYT introduced an audio app based on Audm, which it purchased in 2020. Speechify intends to distinguish itself in this industry by providing all types of integrations and being a one-stop shop for reading experiences.
