ClickUp buys calendar startup Hypercal

To expand its platform, Tiger Global and a16z-backed productivity business ClickUp purchased the calendar app Hypercal, Eltrys reports. The app’s founder, Ricardo Clerigo, joins ClickUp as Head of Calendar as part of the purchase.

The 2022 Mac program Hypercal from the U.K. is integrated with Notion, OneNote, Apple Notes, Google Docs, Todolist, Apple Reminders, Asana, the Things app, Microsoft To-Do, and Slack.

Free users could link one calendar and a task app. The $10-per-month Hypercal premium tier included unlimited calendar and task integrations.

Companies may talk, collaborate on papers, manage projects, track timetables, ideate on whiteboards, and obtain insights via analytical dashboards on ClickUp.

ClickUp CEO and founder Zeb Evans told Eltrys that Hypercal will add AI-powered capabilities to the company’s productivity package.

“ClickUp always wanted to create one app to replace them all. Our platform has documents, whiteboards, dashboards, tasks, and AI, eliminating the need for several apps. ClickUp has had Calendar for five years, and our goal is to evolve it to relate it to ‘productivity,’ he stated.

“Our acquisition of HyperCal will accelerate our vision for individual productivity, which relies on how workers schedule their days in a calendar. It will employ tasks, documentation, and projects to provide users with context for every meeting.

ClickUp cut 10% of its employment (90 people) in July to streamline and prepare for an IPO. In 2022, the startup eliminated 7% of its staff. It called this a “one-time decision” to boost profits.

Andreessen Horowitz and Tiger Global led $400 million in Series C fundraising for ClickUp. Lightspeed Venture Partners, Meritech Capital Partners, Craft Ventures, and Georgian Partners also invest.

Recent months have been active for calendar applications. Vimcal received $4.5 million from Altos Ventures in November to develop its enterprise services. Notion debuted its Cron-based calendar this month after acquiring it in 2022. Amie, a French company, deleted its waitlist and added email.
