Live-selling startup CommentSold creates shoppable, social-ready clips using AI.

CommentSold, an e-commerce tech startup that offers web and video tools to online retailers, unveiled a new generative AI-powered tool on Wednesday that can sift through livestreamed footage and generate short product explainer videos for sellers to post on their website, app, and social media platforms.

The “AI ClipHero” function generates short clips from livestreamed sales events, which might continue for hours. Instead of merchants rewatching material and looking for important clips to edit and upload, CommentSold’s new technology saves them time by automatically recognizing the most interesting sections of the livestream so that buyers who missed the event can receive a quick overview of the items. The technology also employs voice recognition to create captions.

“Shoppable ‘explainer’ videos are the most potent video commerce medium right now, with TikTok and Instagram serving as the key platforms for Gen Z to find, learn about, and buy things.” However, CommentSold CEO Gautam Goswami told Eltrys that creating shoppable videos requires a significant amount of production time.

AI-powered clipping software is not a new concept, but few businesses have created AI-powered solutions specifically for live commerce. Several firms (Powder, Eklipse, and others) have created similar capabilities that allow content makers to record highlights from game broadcasts.

TikTok and Twitch are using AI to make shoppable films from streaming events. “CommentSold is now the first supplier to provide a commercially accessible AI that uses millions of hours of livestreams in its library to recognize and make product explanation films from livestream selling events,” Goswami said.

CommentSold just launched PopClips, which enables businesses to tag items in a banner at the bottom of each clip, directing consumers to the product page and increasing sales. The firm also offers tools for creating bespoke websites and mobile apps, as well as systems for automating inventories, billing, and shipping.

Since its introduction in 2017, CommentSold has assisted over 7,000 small and medium-sized enterprises in providing live shopping and e-commerce experiences. According to the corporation, it has enabled the sale of over 180 million goods totaling more than $4.4 billion in lifetime gross merchandise value (GMV), an increase from $3.8 billion in 2023.
