Threads now allows all users to save drafts and capture photos directly in the app

Threads, the app from Instagram that is similar to Twitter, is introducing a new feature that allows users to save a draft and capture photos directly in the app. Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, unveiled the new features today, emphasizing their goal of simplifying the process of sharing ideas quickly. The official release follows a period of testing the features with a small group of users. At that time, Mosseri mentioned that these were two of the most requested features on the platform.

The latest updates transform Threads into a stronger rival to X (formerly Twitter), which has offered drafts and a camera shortcut for quite some time. Threads only allow saving one draft at a time, while X allows saving multiple drafts. Users can now begin composing a post they wish to share later and then swipe down to save it as a draft.

Regarding the feature of capturing images within the application, you can achieve this by selecting the camera icon in the composer. After snapping a picture, you have the option to either share it or take another shot. Using the shortcut simplifies the process of sharing photos instantly without having to go through the steps of using your device’s camera and then attaching the photo to a Threads post from your camera roll.

The introduction of the camera shortcut coincides with Nima Owji’s suggestion that X may be considering using Threads’ carousel format for image display. X currently showcases images in a grid layout, but this design might be subject to alterations down the line.

Threads has been steadily incorporating new functionalities since its release in July 2023 to compete more effectively with X. Recently, the platform introduced a new bookmarking feature, trending topics, and the ability to cross-post from Facebook to Threads.
