A much-requested feature will bring Instagram threads closer to Twitter. The text-based social networking app is testing bookmarking favorite articles to revisit them later.
Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri introduced the feature in a Threads post on Wednesday, saying the restricted test has begun.
The new save function is under the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of posts for test users. We don’t know why Threads buried the option under the “More Options” menu since Instagram’s bookmarks symbol is next to the like, comment, and share buttons. To make its iOS bookmark button simpler to discover, X repositioned it. Threads may keep evaluating the best place for its new save option.
Since 2016, Instagram has allowed bookmarking, so threads should too. Saving material for later is useful when you want to read a post, particularly if it links to a longer piece, but don’t have time.
Since its launch last year, Threads has added additional features to compete with X, Bluesky, Mastodon, Nostr, Post, and Spill. Last month, the site announced a “Trends” function to highlight current subjects.
Threads reported 130 million monthly active users at Meta’s fourth-quarter results announcement.
