Videos can now be seen in Substack’s Chat tool.

According to a firm announcement on Wednesday, Substack, the newsletter platform, is introducing a new feature that enables authors to send videos to their subscribers through Chat, the company’s private community function. It has been two months since the email platform introduced videos to Notes, which is a clone of X and Twitter that allows users to post short-form material. Video deployment in chat occurs at the same time.

The addition of new features, which place Substack in direct competition with social media platforms, is something that continues to happen. The addition of video to Chat is similar to the addition of other features, and it offers newsletter authors a new method to engage directly with their devoted followers, as well as to share exclusive news or sneak peaks with their community.

At the beginning of this year, the firm introduced Chats, which gave users the ability to have more informal conversations with members. Substack only recently implemented the capability to paywall a full conversation or select threads for paying users. This feature appeared just one month ago.

Open a new chat window, and then click on the plus button located in the bottom left corner of the screen. This will allow authors to post a video in Substack Chat. Once they have selected “Video,” they will have the option to either shoot a video using their phone’s camera or upload material from their gallery. On the other hand, movies may only be five minutes long. This is a restriction.

Furthermore, Substack allows for the addition of a caption, the placement of the video behind a paywall, and the sending of emails to subscribers informing them about the movie. In addition, those who have subscribed will get a push notification on their mobile devices. If this functionality is successfully implemented, Substack’s appeal may be expanded to include a variety of creators in addition to those who produce and publish content.

Writers who let their subscribers initiate their own chat threads will now also have the ability to share their own videos with their audience. According to the statement, the firm is planning to shortly introduce the capability for members to submit video responses.
