WhatsApp launches Channel voice updates and polling

WhatsApp is adding voice updates, polls, and admins to channels.

The firm said channel owners may now speak to followers. Podcasters might release episode teasers to boost engagement. WhatsApp says its 2 billion users transmit 7 billion audio messages every day.

Channel owners can also publish polls. Previously, channel posts could only be responded to using emoticons.

Channel updates may now be shared on WhatsApp Stories. Instagram lets users add channel posts to stories. A cool technique for channel managers to promote their channel to their network.

WhatsApp introduced channels in Singapore and Columbia in June 2023 and internationally in September 2023. At the time, the software authorized one administrator per channel. However, a meta-owned corporation will enable 16 admins per channel. The channel description page’s “Invite admins” option lets the owner ask others to become admins.

WhatsApp reported 500 million monthly users and rapid growth in channels.

Telegram launched channel discovery and customization last month, including story updates.
